Hilton Garden Inn Arlington Shirlington

We conducted a work event here. The hotel staff was excellent at assisting us with all our needs. The conference room we used was a tad small but worked well for what we needed it for. Coffee was provided as well as a complementary room since we booked over 50 rooms total. The location in Shirlington is nice. There is a Harris Teeter across the street as well as numerous restaurants all within walking distance of the hotel. The lobby is stylish and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel for a conference or even for a stay if on vacation in the area.

Money focused, bad service rude and unwelcoming staff. The first thing the receptionist at the hotel said to me was, “can I have your bank card please for incidental extras”, not even a welcome or smile. I was given confusing message about room arrangements and breakfast. As a diamond member of Hilton group I usually get complementary breakfast and room upgrade but I was told by this hotel staff that as a diamond member I was entitled to nothing. This totally contradicted the information I was given by the Hilton booking agent. There was a ration in place for breakfast, I was told that there was a limit of $10 each day but the set breakfast would cost $13. I would need to pay the difference. I don’t have a problem with paying even more if the quality of the food and the service was good. When I arrived at breakfast table the staff at the restaurant were extremely rude. They didn’t speak much English but they knew how to ask for money. Their first question was, “how you going to pay for the breakfast?” You don’t need to know English to be nice. I was shocked at their rude welcome and told them they can charge it to my room. The breakfast quality was very poor and tasteless. I have had better breakfasts at other non branded hotels for half the price and served with care. The room was big but the bed was uncomfortable and pillow was a nightmare. The cleaners didn’t clean my room for the first two days but when I complained they cleaned my room the next day but left rubbish inside the room. Their air conditioning system was either blowing very cold or very hot air. They didn’t have much control over it. I stayed at the hotel for 4 days and hardly rested or slept. They had a swimming pool with uncomfortably cold water and a hot tub that was far too hot. The hotel was located at an amazing location but had lost its class and balance. I was disappointed! My overall conclusion is that this hotel did not meet Hilton standard and should be considered for a serious review by the management of Hilton group. I will not be staying at that branch again and would be demanding my money back.

I have stayed at this location before, but this visit was very disappointing. Cons: The front desk associate while checking in didn’t even greet me, just took my ID and began to check me in. Not personable. The water pressure is abominable. It would take an hour to rinse all the shampoo out of long hair. This isn’t saving water. The plaque to explain the water pressure that supposedly “saves water” is so tiny that unless you are seeking it out, you’d never know it existed. I had to clean the shower head as it was covered in pink mold. TV’s outdated - no streaming options. Mattress outdated- was lumpy. The swimming pool is laughable - I could stand and hold my arms out and be able to touch the sides. No one could swim laps here. Pros: The location is phenomenal as everything in Shirlington Village is walkable. The AC/heat worked great and had an excellent fan for white noise. Room is equipped with a microwave , mini-drive, and a Keurig, which was nice to have available.
